Introducing the Access to Politics Charter

Access to Politics Charter front cover. At the top, there are colourful abstract designs in blue, orange, yellow and teal. The title text reads - Access to Politics: Charter for political parties. At the bottom are the bilingual Disability Wales and Access to Politics Grassroots Network logos.

The Access to Politics Charter is here, a bold and practical roadmap for political parties to support the meaningful participation, representation and influence of disabled people in political life across Wales.

Co-produced with members of the Access to Politics Grassroots Network, and informed by pioneering work from Inclusion Scotland alongside key national guidance, the Charter sets out clear, achievable steps for political parties to remove barriers and create more inclusive party structures.

Disabled people make up one fifth of the Welsh population, yet this is not reflected in elected and decision-making roles. The continued exclusion of disabled people from political spaces limits the quality, relevance and impact of public decision-making. This Charter directly addresses that inequality.

Disability Wales is calling on all political parties to commit to the implementation of the Charter. By taking action now, parties can play a vital role in creating a more equitable, inclusive and representative democracy in Wales.
