Access to Elected Office Fund Wales

Access to Elected Office Fund and Welsh Government logos side by side

What is the Access to Elected Office Fund Wales?

Disabled people remain underrepresented in Welsh political life.

The Access to Elected Office Fund Wales aims to change that by helping to remove practical barriers. It does this by covering the additional costs disabled candidates may face when standing for election. The fund is open to both political party candidates and independents.

Administered by Disability Wales and funded by the Welsh Government, the fund supports disabled people to participate fully in democracy.

In 2020, Wales made history as the first nation in the UK to launch such a fund at the community council level, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive and representative democracy.

Now, the Welsh Government has approved a second round of the scheme to support disabled candidates standing for election to the Senedd in 2026 and Local Government in 2027.
