New EHRC Commissioner for Wales

Message from Kate Bennett:
June Milligan appointed EHRC Commissioner for Wales

I’m thrilled to announce that June Milligan has been appointed as our new Commissioner for Wales.

June has a strong track record as a champion for equality and human rights in Wales.  Her knowledge of Wales and determination to change people’s lives for the better will hold her in good stead for this important role.

June draws her experience and insight from a wide range of leadership roles in public service, including as a Governor in long-term and maximum security prisons, as a Diplomat representing the UK to the European institutions in Brussels, and as a Ministerial policy adviser and Principal Private Secretary.

Most recently June served as a Board Member of the devolved Government in Wales, with responsibilities as Director General and Accounting Officer for Local Government and Communities, and for leading and championing Equality and Diversity.

June is currently a Trustee of the Young Foundation, and a lay member of the governing body of the University of Glasgow.

We look forward to welcoming June to her new role.

National Director for Wales

Following her appointment, June Milligan said:

I am delighted to be appointed as the EHRC Commissioner for Wales.  The Equality and Human Rights Commission plays a vital role in ensuring fairness, dignity and respect for people throughout Great Britain. I look forward to working with the EHRC Wales team and with all those organisations and people in Wales who share that practical commitment to promoting equality and human rights.
