Embolden

#IAmEmbolden is a mission to change the way D/deaf and disabled women and girls are viewed in society. Disability Wales, with funding from Spirit of 2012 and the Fawcett Society, has been highlighting the achievements of Welsh D/deaf and disabled women and girls, now and in history, challenging myths and stereotypes about disability and showcasing our amazing women role models.

In August 2017, we launched a call for nominations of D/deaf and disabled women and girls across Wales who are creating change and breaking down barriers. We received 42 nominations highlighting the achievements of women and girls in; the arts, careers, education, sports and within their local communities.

From the long list of nominations, a panel of judges selected eight nominees who they felt had shown outstanding achievements.

Our Embolden Ambassadors are disabled women and girls from across Wales who have challenged stereotypes, created change and achieved success. Each Ambassador has experience of working with the media to share their stories and views on wider disability issues.
