Money Matters
Other benefits
You may be entitled to other benefits as a result of being awarded any of the above. It is always worthwhile having a benefit check, to find out if there are any extra benefits you may be eligible to.
Council Tax
If you own or rent your home, you will normally have to pay Council Tax, which is based on the value of the property. You may be entitled to a reduced bill if:
- You live on your own
- Another person lives with you and provides care
- You are disabled and your property has been adapted to make things easier for you
- You have left your property empty in order to be cared for elsewhere
Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit
You may be eligible for Council Tax Benefit if you:
- Pay Council Tax
- Are on a low income
- Have less than £16,000 in savings
You may be eligible for Housing Benefit if you:
- Pay rent
- Are on a low income
- Have less than £16,000 in savings.
How much benefit you receive depends on your particular situation and the level of any savings you have. If you do not qualify for benefits but you live with someone on a low income, you may be able to get help from the second adult rebate scheme.
If you claim Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance, application forms should be included with your claim pack.
