Independent Living Strategic Plan
On 20 May 2009 the DW Board approved an organisational strategic plan that identifies 21 key actions to guide its policy development and campaigning work through to the end of March 2011.
The ambitious plan is structured around two primary objectives, two high priority objectives, two secondary objectives and a monitoring objective. Please note that we have used 'citizen centered support' as the terminology that is increasingly being used in Wales to describe 'personalisation', 'individual budgets' and 'self directed support'.
Please follow the links for information about the actions that we intend to implement to achieve our strategic objectives.
The primary objectives are to:
· Raise awareness of Independent Living, the Social Model of Disability and disablism.
The high priority objectives are to:
· Support the take up of direct payments and introduction of citizen centered support.
· Improve access to information, advice and independent advocacy.
The secondary objectives are to:
· Establish a national Independent Living think tank.
The final objective is to:
· Ensure that implementation of the plan is effectively performance monitored.
Please do leave your comments, criticisms and suggestions, which will help to ensure that our work is supported and driven by our members. Alternatively, you are welcome to contact Paul Swann, our Independent Living Policy Officer , to request hard copies and accessible versions of the strategic plan, or to discuss any aspect of Independent Living.
