DW Networks
What can the Networks do for your group?
The networks provide disabled people with an opportunity to discuss issues that are important to them and share topical, up-to-date information.
Networks will:
-
be involved with policy development
-
provide a forum for mutual support, which will enable you to share ideas and experiences
-
provide training and development
-
raise awareness and understanding of relevant issues
-
identify and campaign on issues and problems that need attention in your area
-
find out what issues are common to disabled communities
-
work out how people in different communities see your group and what they might need from you
-
Set up a regular social event
-
As a Network, join in other events where you live, from arts festivals, sports occasions, consultations events
-
Provide a chance to have a ‘party’
How do the Networks operate?
The Networks will meet regularly, usually quarterly. There is no template for how you operate – you will need to base this on such things as travel considerations and geography.
They will be supported by the Disability Networks Co-ordinator and other Disability Wales staff. You could also invite guest speakers to attend the meetings, e.g. from your local council or other agencies.
What will Disability Wales do?
Disability Wales can offer networks:
- support, information and advice
- help with identifying any training requirements e.g. fundraising workshops or committee skills training
- help members become involved in all levels of local, national and international developments and decision-making
