Diverse Cymru – Diversity in Film and TV

Diverse Cymru are working with and on behalf of the Welsh Government’s Creative Industries Sector Team to deliver a pioneering project, Diversity in Film and TV, to explore the barriers that may prevent people from diverse backgrounds becoming involved in the sector.

They are working with professionals in the creative industries to explore positive solutions to ensure that anyone with drive and talent has a fair chance to work successfully within a growing industry that represent the true diversity of Wales. They are currently identifying people from diverse backgrounds with the skills relevant to the creative sector and also promoting upcoming film and TV opportunities.

Working with film and TV companies, we are suggesting practical and affordable solutions aimed at diversifying their workforce – for example by identifying funding support for training and placement opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.

Diverse Cymru are also working with Wales Screen to ensure that opportunities within the creative industries are made available to everyone. We are especially interested in encouraging disabled people and people from BME communities to take advantage of these opportunities; the first step is to sign up and register your interests, skills and experience this is the portal to live job opportunities within this field. There currently are many opportunities for camera operators, caterers, hair dressers, make-up artists, carpenters, painters, animal trainers, runners, sound people and so on, the industry in Wales is having problems finding enough people to fill these roles.

If you (or your service users) are trying to break into the industry and believe you have been discriminated against or that additional barriers stopped you pursuing this career, please get in touch! They would like to add your story to our research to ensure that this does not happen in the future and that opportunities are equal for all.

You can start by taking a few minutes to complete our feedback form that will enable them to collect information on the type of support that you may need to get gainful employment in the creative industries, or, if you are an employer, the type of support that you might need to be fully inclusive in your work force.
