Dateline 2013 – 2014

Our Digital Lives project supports the digital inclusion of disabled people across Wales. The project includes the facilitation and delivery of workshops which will raise awareness of the assistive technologies that enable people to get online, increase disabled people’s confidence and knowledge in relation to ICT and encourage disabled people and their organisations to reap the benefits of online services and communication.

Are you a disabled person? Interested in getting online? Want a training session for your local group?

The current complex system of working-age benefits and Tax Credits is to be replaced by a new benefit called Universal Credit.

The process of moving existing claimants on to Universal Credit will be done gradually over the next few years. This will have a major impact for disabled people. Being online will not be an option as everyone will be expected to claim via the internet.

There are many other benefits to being online and using digital technology, and we fear that many disabled people are being left behind and missing out on the positive impact technology can bring

We’re running a Digital Lives project to support disabled people to develop internet skills, gain knowledge and interest.

Whether you want to know about the assistive technology that’s available, gain basic ICT skills, learn how to skype, advice on how to stay safe online…we can help.

Internet Safety – We can deliver an hour session around how to be safe online, whether this is whist using Social Media, Shopping or by general use of the internet.

Assistive Technology – Disabled People might not be able to benefit from the internet due to not having or knowing about the availability of suitable assistive technology. We can arrange a session for you with Aidis Trust who will demonstrate the wise range of assistive technology available.

Ipad interactive apps – There are many apps available for the touch screen device that will encourage development. We can run an interactive, fun session where individuals will have a chance to be more hands on, and discover different benefits of technology.

General ICT use – We run sessions around the general use of the internet, wheather you want to know how to use Facebook, Twitter, set up email, Word etc

If your local disabled group would benefit from a digital inclusion session, tailored to your groups requirements, whether it’s an hour session at your monthly meeting or an all day workshop – please get in touch with Tina Evans tina.evans@disabilitywales.org or call 02920 887325
