Becoming a Board Member
Disability Wales adopted new Articles and Memorandum in October 2004. There are now two methods of obtaining a seat on the Board of Directors:
- Nomination via a membership organisation and elected by Full DW members at the Annual General Meeting
- Appointed by the Board – appointees do not have to have the same skills and experience required by elected Directors
Membership of Board categories
- Four Honorary Officers
- Three nationally elected Directors
- Five regionally elected Directors
- Three Directors from Disabled People’s Organisations
- Five Directors appointed by the Board of Directors
- Two co-opted members
At the EGM on 14 May 2003, it was agreed that any individual nominated to and elected to the Board of Directors must be a disabled person. The definition of disabled person adopted by the EGM was as follows:
‘one who on account of having a physical and/or sensory impairment, learning difficulty or mental health issue faces barriers due to attitudinal, societal and/or environmental factors.’
