Office for Disability Issues: Independent Living Strategy
3 Mar 2008

The Strategy sets out a five-year plan that seeks to realise the Government’s aim that all disabled people (including older disabled people) should be able to live autonomous lives, and to have the same choice, freedom, dignity and control over their lives as non-disabled people. IT IS PRIMARILY CONCERNED ABOUT PROPOSALS THAT WILL AFFECT ENGLAND. It takes a life course approach, from young people in transition to adulthood and including older people. The Strategy has been developed in partnership with disabled people to ensure it reflects people’s knowledge and real life experiences of the barriers to independent living. A series of regional events and workshops, including disabled people and organisations of and for disabled people, were held during the review.
