Planning and Inclusive Design guidance issued
6 Dec 2007

The  Welsh Assembly Government's final interim guidance on Planning for inclusive Design (Access Statements) has now been issued. It provides national planning guidance on access statements which are required to accompany certain applications for planning permission and listed building consent under Section 42 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.

Disability Wales and access groups in Wales are concerned that this guidance does not fully address key issues in the built environment that affect disabled people, particularly around the quality of the content of access statements, and how statements are enforced within the planning system.

We are working with the Welsh Assembly to try to resolve these concerns.
