Assembly Elections, 3 May 2007
This May, we will be voting in the National Assembly for Wales’s third election. You could almost say it is now past the toddler stage: standing up and walking, talking for itself. The politics should be reflecting this and to a certain extent, they are. Although some people may feel it is still overly driven by a Westminster agenda, the Assembly is established as part of the life of Wales.

It has already had a real impact on the lives of disabled people in Wales, both positive – adoption of the Social Model of Disability - and negative – the dropping the commitment to free home by the Welsh Assembly Government. Whatever their commitment, the political parties and individual AMs still have a lot to learn. The social model of disability is still not fully understood by all the AMs. Despite years of consultation, research and lobbying, disabled people still face open discrimination in education, employment, housing, the high street and every other area of our lives.
