Although Disability Wales has no policy on the Constitution, a number of elements will affect the lives of disabled people. Whether you decide to vote yes or no, making an informed choice is important. The European Disability Forum has a comprehensive guide to the Constitution – check it out!

A Constitution is a crucial instrument because it has an impact on people's everyday life.
A Constitution is a text which contains the fundamental rules of a State or a group of States. These rules answer several questions. How do the institutions work? How is the division of powers arranged? What means can be used to implement policies or to ensure that the directives which have an impact on disability are implemented? What values are upheld? What are the citizens' fundamental rights, such as the prohibition of discrimination on the ground of disability?
The European Constitution was prepared and adopted through a transparent and democratic process, by a European Convention of 105 representatives (of whom 72 were directly elected members of national parliaments or of the European Parliament).
