Wales Alliance for Citizen Directed Support & Network 3 Conference - 28 June

08 June 2012

On 28 June the Wales Alliance for Citizen Directed Support and Network 3 (formerly the Health, Social Care & Wellbeing Network) will hold a joint seminar at Hope Church, Newtown.

The morning session will be on "Citizen Directed Support and Independent Living: Making Change Happen For Us All". Keynote speaker is Jane Hutt AM, Minister for Finance and Leader of the House, who is championing the Framework for Action on Independent Living.

We will also launch a national conversation called "I Matter – We Matter" about the things that are important to us in our lives. We hope this will help to shape the Welsh Government’s National Outcomes Framework, which will be a key part the new direction for social services in Wales.

DW is one of the citizen led groups that will be leading these conversations at the conference, the others including Dewis Centre for Independent Living and Swansea Association for Independent Living.

The afternoon session will focus on the potential for developing co-operative approaches to provision of social services. Keynote speaker will be John Restakis, Executive Director of the British Colombia Co-operative Association. A leading international authority on co-operatives, John Restakis is author of the highly regarded book "Humanising the Economy: Co-operatives in the Age of Capital".

The event is free and non-professionals may reclaim travel expenses.

This will be a very informative meeting and also provides a great opportunity for networking with others who wish to contribute to the development of new approaches to social services in Wales.
